The catalyst is used as a frontal layer in a shaft furnace for natural gas autothermal reforming of the ammonia, methanol and hydrogen plants. It serves for combustion zone stabilization and main catalyst bed protection from heat strokes.

The catalyst is the promoted nickel oxide on the heat-resistant porous corundum support of optimized shape for highest reforming efficiency.
